The year 2004 saw the creation of the Demetrio Ribes Prize for Research, which aims to promote research into our past and present history through different scientific disciplines. The prize disseminates research on the history of transport and public works in the Valencian Community, thus supporting researchers and awarding their commitment to Valencian history and heritage.

In 2008, the Transport Landscapes Research Project Competition, based around the railway in Alicante, was launched. This competition was added to the events scheduled by the Valencian Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport to commemorate 150 years since railway first arrived in Alicante. Of the projects submitted, five finalists were chosen, from which the winner, Alicante-Madrid, la primera línea férrea al mediterráneo: un recorrido paisajístico por la provincia de Alicante by María Mestre Martí, was selected.
